eMotion Pictures: An Exhibition of
Orthopedics in Art
Art work by artists with an orthopedic
condition reflects aspects of their experience with pain,
frustration, recovery, freedom and hope. Works
by orthopedic surgeons to illustrate the
patient/physician partnership, compassion,
the art of healing, and how the physician can make
a difference in helping people live healthier lives. A personal narrative describing
the artists'
inspiration for their work accompanies each piece that uses a variety of media,
including painting,
drawing. Prints, photography, sculpture, textiles, crafts, functional art and
mixed media.

Among the exhibited artists from
around the world,
Irish artist Darina Roche suffered polio as
a child, and
created paintings to both contain and express physically
and emotionally challenging hospitalizations and surgeries
during her recovery.
