The International Seminar on the Hydrogen Economy for
Sustainable Development
Reykjavik, Iceland, 28-29 September 2006
The Seminar, which was co-organized by the Government of Iceland and the
United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs was convened to
provide an opportunity for energy policy makers and representatives from
governments, industry and academia from both developed and developing
countries to exchange information on the recent progress in the development
and application of hydrogen energy technologies. The Seminar also provided
participants an opportunity to acquaint themselves with the sustainable
development and use of geothermal energy in Iceland. Conditions for energy
development in various developing countries were introduced and
possibilities for expanded international cooperation were explored. The
Seminar was attended by more than 80 participants from 20 countries. H.E.
Ms. Valgerdur Sverrisdottir, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iceland opened
the seminar. Mr. David Garman, Under Secretary in the U.S. Department of
Energy, presented a keynote address. Further background information,
