The Matrix of Activities provides details of UN-system activities
in the field of Energy. It has been prepared by the Department of
Economic and Social Affairs as an information tool to facilitate the
work of the Ad Hoc Inter-agency Task Force on Energy in their
preparations for the ninth session of the Commission on Sustainable
Development to be held in 2001 for which energy
and atmosphere and energy and
transport are major themes. The Matrix is a living document that is
updated and elaborated periodically as appropriate, and has been used as
an internal tool for coordination of UN activities in the area of
energy. It is put into
public domain at the request of the Ad Hoc Open-Ended Group of Experts
on Energy and Sustainable Development at their first session held in New
York, 6-10 March 2000.
It should be noted that
the Matrix of Activities lists activities as they are submitted by
individual UN entities and agencies, and that no attempt has been made
to edit or streamline the entries.
Thus, activities undertaken in coordination may appear under more
than one entity/agency heading. Also,
the level of detail reported may vary among entries.
If additional information is required, it is recommended that the
UN agency/entity undertaking the activity be contacted directly.
Contact names and electronic addresses are included under each
agency/entity heading. Web
page addresses are also provided.
It is hoped that this
Matrix of Activities will provide useful information on coordination and
cooperation within the UN system in the area of energy, as well as
details about specific energy-related activities undertaken in
preparation for the ninth session of the Commission on Sustainable
Development.
