Natural Resources Forum: A United Nations Sustainable Development Journal

The Natural Resources Forum, a quarterly journal launched in 1976, is issued by the Division for Sustainable Development in the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs. The focus of the Forum has evolved over the years from technical issues of extraction, development and efficient exploitation of resources, to international, multidisciplinary issues related to sustainable development and management of natural resources, particularly in developing countries and countries in transition.

Original contributions that stimulate the global debate on themes being considered by the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) are especially encouraged. All articles submitted for publication are peer-reviewed by experts in the field.

FREE Access: Virtual Issue on Climate Change
The Natural Resources Forum announces a FREE Virtual Issue on Climate Change which has been developed in an effort to contribute to the intense public debate that surrounds this global challenge.

Viewpoints・Each issue of the journal poses a question to help stimulate and advance the dialogue on critical issues related to sustainable development. We invite experts and practitioners to share your views in 200 words or less. Final selection will be made by the Editorial Board. Selected comments will appear alongside other thoughtful responses in the journal. We are currently welcoming contributions to the following Viewpoints questions:
  • "Are women more severely affected by desertification, . . . . .and if so, how?"
    (November 2008 issue)
  • "Is IWRM implementation possible without strong regulatory, participatory and incentive frameworks at the river-basin level?" (February 2009 issue)

Book Reviews We welcome reviews of recently published books that focus on sustainable development, environment and socio-economic issues. See Call for Book Review for more details.
