Ms. JoAnne DiSano is the Head of the CSD Secretariat - which provides strategic support to the intergovernmental process, its Bureau and its subsidiary bodies - and, as such, was also in charge of the Secretariat for the World Summit on Sustainable Development. She was responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of all the substantive activities related to the Preparatory Meetings and the Johannesburg Summit itself.

Ms. DiSano has been Director of the Division for Sustainable Development in the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs since 1998.

Prior to joining the United Nations, she spent 11 years working at a senior level for the Government of Australia on environmental and conservation policy after 15 years' service at the management level with the Canadian Government on the Treasury Board and on employment and immigration issues.
