Second International Expert Meeting
Costa Rica (5-8 September 2005)
The Second International Meeting on Sustainable Consumption and
Production under the Marrakech process was held in San Jose,
Costa Rica, 5 - 8 September 2005.
The meeting consider inputs from the regional meetings and
deliberate on how international activities can best support
regional and national priorities; work to establish ways to
improve international cooperation and assistance for developing
countries; and review the scope of the ten-year framework.
The meeting was organized by the United Nations
Department of Economic and Social Affairs and the United Nations
Environment Programme, and hosted by the Ministry of Environment
and Energy of Costa Rica, in collaboration with the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and the Costa Rican National Cleaner Production
Center. Financial support for the meeting, particularly for the
participation of experts from developing countries, was provided
by the Governments of Austria, Belgium, Germany, Finland, Italy,
Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
Participants in the meeting were experts on various aspects of
sustainable consumption and production from government agencies,
international organizations, consumer organizations, business
and industry, and other non-governmental organizations. Some 150
experts from 70 countries and 9 international organizations
participated in the meeting.
