PROGRAM OF ACTION FOR THE SECOND INTERNATIONAL DECADE OF

On
22 December 2004, the General Assembly adopted Resolution
A/RES/59/174 for a Second International Decade, which commenced
on 1 January 2005 . The Under-Secretary-General for Economic
and Social Affairs was appointed Coordinator for the Second
Decade.

COLLECTION AND DISSEMINATION: The
United Nations Statistics Division in cooperation with the
Permanent Forum reviewed national practices in data collection
and dissemination in the areas of ethnicity, language and
religion. Currently, data
on national and/or ethnic groups is posted by sex
and urban/rural residence for each national available census
between 1985 and 2004.

ANNUAL
MEETING OF THE INTER-AGENCY SUPPORT GROUP ON INDIGENOUS ISSUES
(IASG), 19-21 September 2005, Panama City: The
2005 Annual meeting of the IASG was hosted by the UNICEF Regional
Office for Latin America and the Caribbean. The focus of the
2005 meeting was to strengthen the link between the UNPFII
and the work of the UN system at the regional and country
levels and discuss ways to implement the recommendations of
UNPFII at regional and national levels. The report of the
meeting is currently being finalized and will be submitted
to the Fifth Session of the Permanent Forum in May 2006. Draft
