- Was elected to the Ermineskin Tribal Council then served as the first Treaty Indian ever elected to the 34th House of Commons of the Canadian Parliament. As Member of Parliament served on several senior committees from 1988 to 1993.

INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATION [Highlights]
- As a Member of Parliament, served on the Indigenous Parliament of the Americas [1988-1993] as Vice-President. Sessions were held in Guatemala, Mexico City and as host, Chaired a Parliamentary Session in the House of Commons in Ottawa, Ontario.
- Founding Member of the Indigenous Initiative for Peace with Nobel Laureate Rigoberta Menchu-Tum, Co-chaired Summits in Guatemala and Mexico which endorsed the Indigenous Decade and an Independent Tribunal proposals [1993-94].
- Legal team member for the lawsuit in the British High Courts at London, England to prevent patriation of the Canadian Constitution until the Aboriginal and Treat Rights were protected and entrenched in the Constitution [1980-81]. Legal presentation to Rotterdam Tribunal [Netherlands] on Indigenous Land Rights [1980]
- Since 1977, as Member of the First Indigenous delegation to the United Nations. Attended over one hundred (100) International meetings in twenty seven (27) countries as a delegate, legal counsel for the Four Nations of the Maskwachiys Cree. Participation includes preparations and presentations of interventions to Working Groups, Prep-Coms, Seminars, Meetings of Experts, the U.N. Sub-Commissions on the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights, the Commission on Human Rights and E.C.O.S.O.C.
- Chaired the Working Group to consolidate the Indigenous Draft of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples [W.C..I.P. at Panama and W.G.I.P. at Geneva]
- Proposed themes at W.G.I.P. on Children and Youth; Economic Development
- Since 1982 participated at W.G.I.P. on the Draft Declaration and at all Inter-Sessional Working Groups to date to argue for current U.N. Declaration.
- In 1977 chaired the World Council of Indigenous Peoples [W.C.I.P.] Session in Kiruna, Sweden on I.L.O. Convention 107. Later led delegation to Geneva to meet with I.L.O. Executive to argue for amendments to I.L.O. Convention 107 [1983]. Chaired the Indigenous Working Group of Canada to coordinate one (1) proposal for amendments. Attended as official delegate to General Assembly and meetings to draft I.L.O. Convention 169 [1988].
- Participated in lobby for Resolution on U.N. Treaty Study. Assisted Special Rapporteur on provision of legal evidence and other documentation for review on Treaty No. 6 as it was selected for specific reference. Monitored throughout, the U.N. Treaty Study and hosted Professor Miguel Alfonso Martinez to meet with our Elders , Members and Leaders on three (3) occasions leading up to the Final Report.
- Coordinated as host and chairman, Her Excellency Mary Robinson, the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights' visit with the Maskwachiys Cree in our Treaty No.6 Territory and Canada.
- Chaired the Indigenous meeting in Denver, Colorado to draft an alternate text to the proposed Organization of American States [O.A.S.] Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Was selected by the O.A.S. as one of five experts to review all submissions by States and Indigenous representatives to draft a composite text as an O.A.S. proposal for consultations. Co-chaired the Indigenous Summit to seek full and direct participation by Indigenous Peoples at subsequent O.A.S. meetings to consider the proposed draft. Attended two (2) subsequent Expert Committee meetings in Washington, D.C. as work in progress.
