Ad Hoc Committee : Meeting 29 July - 9 August 2002 : Daily Summaries Daily Summary for 5 August 2002 From the UN Journal No. 2002/150 dated 6 August 2002 (English and French only) AD HOC COMMITTEE ON A COMPREHENSIVE AND INTEGRAL INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION ON PROTECTION AND PROMOTION OF THE RIGHTS AND DIGNITY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES 11th meeting The Committee continued its consideration of the question on the equality in civil and political rights and heard the statements made by the representatives of Chile and Mexico. The representatives of World Blind Union, Disabled Persons International and Madre Inc. made statements. 12th meeting The Ad Hoc Committee proceeded to consider the question of the equality in economic, social and cultural rights and heard statements made by the representatives of Brazil, Denmark (on behalf of the European Union), Jamaica, Mexico, Norway, the Philippines, South Africa, Uganda and the United States, as well as by the representative of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights on civil and political rights. The representatives of the following non-governmental organizations also made statements: Landmines Survivor Network, Madre Inc., Rehabilitation International, World Blind Union and World Federation of the Deaf. COMITÉ SPÉCIAL CHARGÉ D'EXAMINER UNE CONVENTION INTERNATIONALE GLOBALE ET INTÉGRÉE SUR LA DÉFENSE ET LA PROMOTION DES DROITS ET DE LA DIGNITÉ DES HANDICAPÉS 11e séance Le Comité poursuit l’examen de la question de l’égalité des droits civils et politiques en entendant des déclarations des représentants du Chili et du Mexique. Les représentants de l’Union mondiale des aveugles, de Disabled Persons International et de Madre Inc. font des déclarations. 12e séance Le Comité spécial examine la question de l’égalité des droits économiques, sociaux et culturels en entendant des déclarations des représentants du Brésil, du Danemark (au nom de l’Union européenne), de la Jamaïque, du Mexique, de la Norvège, des Philippines, de l’Afrique du Sud, de l’Ouganda et des Etats-Unis, ainsi que par le représentant du Bureau du Haut Commissariat aux droits de l’homme sur les droits civils et politiques. Les représentants des organisations non gouvernemen- tales suivantes prennent aussi la parole : Réseau des survi- vants des mines terrestres, Madre Inc., Rehabilitation Inter- national, World Union mondiale des aveugles et Fédération mondiale des sourds.
