International Day of Disabled Persons 3 December 1998 - Return to the Overview

Reception in honour of the
International Day, 2 December
at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts
in New York City (USA).

The venue for the reception, the "Stanley H. Kaplan Penthouse" of the Rose Building, was graciously provided by Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. in connection with its long-standing commitment to promotion of international understanding and support for performing arts that are accessible for the enjoyment and enrichment of all (http://www.lincolncenter.org/info/disabil.htm).

The Chrysalis Music Group, in cooperation with Sony Music Entertainment/the WORK Group and AGF Entertainment, Ltd. presented Morley - the multi-talented singer, song writer and choreographer - in performance with "Her World" at the reception. Chrysalis Music Group joined other members of the international community in the 1998 observance of the Day, since the debut album of Morley, "Sun Machine" (released by Sony Music) reflects a concern with personal growth, transformation and inclusive societies for all.

Morley was joined in her performance by Beverly Prentice (dance) and was accompanied by Hal David and Christopher Robbins; Brady Hart provided graphics and Hanz Lee photos.

The Tanusree Shankar Dance Troupe, from Calcutta, India, performed at the reception through arrangements generously made possible by the Tourist Office of the Government of India.

The Juilliard School of Music at Lincoln Center was represented by Ms. Tanya Crist (mezzo soprano) who was accompanied on piano by Mr. Lance Horne.

Mr. Christopher O'Donoghue, distinguished reporter for WWOR / UPN television in New York served as master of ceremonies for the reception.

Mr. André Mirabelli, Senior Vice-President, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. delivered welcoming remarks on behalf of Lincoln Center.

Mr. John German, Director, Non-Profit Computing, a non-governmental organisation, presented a "Certificate of Appreciation" to the Division for Social Policy and Development of the United Nations Secretariat for its pilot efforts in promotion accessible Internet-based services for all.

The Office of International Business Development, Department of Community and Economic Development, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (USA) generously co-hosted the reception.

Mr. Theo Burger, representing A.G. Edwards & Sons, Inc. and Mr. Dwight Angelini, representing Goldman, Sachs & Co. made brief remarks to the reception on activities of their respective organisations in support of the objectives of the 1998 observance of the International Day.
