DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION CONCLUDES FORTY-FIRST SESSION
WITH ACTION ON TEXTS RELATED TO NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL
COOPERATION FOR SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT, IMPLEMENTATION
OF THE SOCIAL OBJECTIVES OF THE NEW PARTNERSHIP
FOR AFRICA'S DEVELOPMENT, YOUTH, DISABLED, AGEING
AND FAMILY.

At
its forty-first session, the Commission for Social
Development considered two topics under its agenda
and multi-year programme of work, namely the priority
theme "National and International Cooperation
for Social Development"; and the review of
relevant United Nations plans and programmes of
action pertaining to the situation of social groups.
The Chairman
of the Commission at its forty-first session was
H.E. Mr. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury of Bangladesh.
Other members of the Bureau of the Commission
were Mrs. Alejandra Marta Ayuso (Argentina), Ms.
Nicole J. Elisha (Benin), and Ms. Paloma Duran
(Spain).
The
Commission adopted its agenda for
its forty-first session which was approved by
the Economic and Social Council. F

The
organization
of work of the Commission
for Social Development at its forty-first session,
which is contained in the annex to the present
note, was also adopted. It had been prepared pursuant
to relevant decisions of the General Assembly
and the Economic and Social Council, to facilitate
the consideration of agenda items within the time
frame available and in accordance with the conference
services allocated to the Commission. F

and international cooperation for social development".

This
report has been prepared in response to decision
2002/237 of the Economic and Social Council, which
adopted the agenda of the Commission for Social
Development for its forty-first session and identified
the priority theme of the Commission as "National
and international cooperation for social development".
The priority theme includes five sub-themes: (a)
"sharing of experiences and practices in
social development"; (b) "forging partnerships
for social development"; (c) "social
responsibility of the private sector"; (d)
"impact of employment strategies on social
development"; and (e) "policies and
role of international financial institutions and
their effect on national social development strategies".
