SG Report on Ageing to the Commission for Social Development
The Commission for Social Development will convene for its 47th session in New York from 4 to 13 February 2009. The priority theme for the 2009-2010 review and policy cycle is social integration. With regard to ageing and older persons, a report of the Secretary-General entitled "Further implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing: strategic implementation framework" (E/CN.5/2009/5) was issued and is now available on the our web-site: http://www.un.org/esa/socdev/ageing/sg_cosd.html

African Union Meeting on Social Development
The African Union (AU) held its first meeting of Ministers responsible for social development in Windhoek, Namibia on 30-31 October 2008. The AU adopted the first Africa-led Social Policy Framework for the continent. The AU also adopted the African Common Position on Social Integration (2009) as a contribution to the Commission for Social Development.
