The Working Group on Ageing of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) met for its constituent meeting in Geneva, 1-2 December. As a result of its deliberations, the Working Group adopted a programme of work aimed at addressing the challenges and opportunities of ageing in Europe, North America and Central Asia. The Board of the International Institute on Ageing (INIA), Malta, held its Sixth regular meeting in Valetta, Malta, from 4 to 5 December 2008. The Members of the Board, led by its Chair, the UN Under-Secretary for Economic and Social Affairs, Mr. Sha Zukang, reviewed the report of the Director of INIA for the period 2004-2008 and the programme of work of the Institute for 2009-2010.
