Report of the Secretary-General to the 63rd session of the General Assembly
A report of the Secretary-General entitled Follow-up to the Second World Assembly on Ageing (A/63/95) was issued on 1 July 2008. It summarizes the results of the first review and appraisal of the MIPAA, and provides an outline of a strategic implementation framework requested by the General Assembly. International Federation on Ageing's 9th Global Conference
The IFA will hold its 9th Global Conference on Ageing in Montreal, Canada (4-7 September 2008). The event is hosted by a new NGO "Ageing Design Montreal" and will combine the IFA's biannual flagship conference with the international debut of its new exhibition series on ageing and design: http://www.ageingdesignmontreal.ca/en/intro.php

International Day of Older Persons 2008
The International Day of Older Persons (IDOP) is commemorated annually on 1 October 2008. At UN headquarters the Day will be celebrated on 2 October 2008 (10am - 4.30pm). The New York NGO Committee on Ageing, the UN Department of Public Information, and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs are the organizers of the 18th International Day. International Day of Older Persons 2008: Global Perspectives on Family Caregiving
On the occasion of the global celebration of IDOP 2008, AARP, the National Alliance for Caregiving, and the UN Programme on Agenig will host a meeting to discuss the latest pertinent issues on family caregiving (1 October 2008, 1-5pm). Speakers will present regional perspectives on caregiving to highlight the increasingly important role family caregivers play around the world as the backbone of their countries' long-term care systems.
