(1) 46th session of the Commission for Social Development (6-15 February 2008, New York)
As a contribution to the conclusion of the first review and appraisal cycle of the Madrid Plan of Action, a report of the Secretary-General entitled First review and appraisal of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing: preliminary assessment as well as a note of the Secretary-General entitled Regional implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing, 2002 were issued. (2) AARP/UN Briefing Series on Global Ageing (5-7 February 2008, New York)
The AARP Global Aging Program in collaboration with the UN Programme on Ageing, is hosting a briefing series on salient issues regarding ageing. The briefings will take place during the session of the Commission for Social Development, on the occasion of the conclusion of the first review and appraisal of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing. Eminent experts in the field of ageing will be invited to facilitate the briefings and present their thoughts on the latest developments in the field of global ageing. Invited to the briefings will be delegates from government, non-governmental organizations, academia, United Nations staff and the private sector. The topics for the three days will include:
February 5th -- Demographic Dividends
February 6th -- Employment and Opportunities for Aging
February 7th -- Human Rights and the Participation of Older Persons in Society
