NGO Committee on Ageing – New York

The NGO Committee on Ageing is the committee that follows issues affecting older persons for the Conference of NGOs in Consultative Relationship with the UN. Its membership comprises NGOs who wish to work together to create a society for all ages and improve the quality of life for older persons worldwide.

The Committee:


Holds monthly presentations and discussions on critical emerging issues
Works toward the implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing 2002
Sponsors special Events and Projects including the annual United Nations International Day of Older Persons
Organizes Caucuses and prepares position statements
Monitors United Nations’ meetings and conferences
Networks and dialogues with United Nations Missions, government representatives and other NGOs to disseminate information
Provides timely information for members and their organizations
Disseminates information on critical emerging issues through global listserv: Ageing Assembly Listserv website

Mission of the Committee:


The NGO Committee on Ageing works to raise world awareness of the opportunities and challenges of global ageing. The Committee advocates within the United Nations community to further integrate ageing in UN policies and programs and encourages member states to include ageing needs in social and economic policy considerations. The goal of the Committee is to further the United Nations mission of building a society for all ages.
