Demographic models

The concept of stable population and model life tables are of cardinal importance for demographers. The model life tables allow substituting often unavailable data on age-specific mortality for estimates based on regularities of age patterns of mortality observed elsewhere. Often this is the only practically available way to estimate the inputs and formulate the hypotheses for the population projections. Model life tables are also discussed and used as examples in the manuals of the cluster Demographic estimates and Population projections.
