Introduction:
Programme emphasis and academic facilities:
Our Institute has a study programme "Socio-Demographic Problems
of Economic Development"
(SOCDEM), prepared under Tempus JEP 4532. The SOCDEM
specialization is basically offered
to students who completed the three-semester introductory programme
and will gain their M.Sc.
degree in Economics within the seven-semester Graduate School. The
certificate in the SOCDEM
specialization will be additional to regular master's diploma which
can be awarded in seven field of
study at the Warsaw School of Economics: Finance and Banking,
Public Sector Economics,
International Economic and Political Relations, Business
Administration, Management and
Marketing, Economics, Quantitative Methods and Information Systems.
Within the SOCDEM
specialization five profiles are proposed: Demography, Labour
Market, Social Statistics, Social
Policy, Ecology.
Financial aid available to students:
The Warsaw School of Economics does not offer any financial
aid.

Eight persons are preparing their Ph.D. Thesis in demography
and population related topics (labour
market, household welfare) and two persons in Social Statistics;
three persons are enrolled in the
SOCDEM programme.
Detail of enrolment prerequisites:
For the Ph.D. programme the M.Sc. degree is required,
preferably in social and economic sciences
(economics, sociology, etc.). For the SOCDEM specialization the
three-semester introductory
programme at the Warsaw School of Economics or the equivalent
courses in other universities are
required.

While the Ph.D. programme lasts three years, the SOCDEM
specialization is more flexible in time
requirements - it could be arranged as the four-semester course.
The Demography Profile in the SOCDEM specialization consists of two
courses:
within the obligatory course lectures in Demography, Social
Statistics, Social Policy, Labour
Economics, Social Survey Designs and Statistical Methods in Social
Research are delivered; the
optional course includes lectures and seminars in: Demographic
Analysis and Forecasting,
Demographic Modelling, Stochastic Processes, Event History Analysis
in Demography, Socio-economic Consequences of Population Dynamics,
Economic Growth and Human Resources, Public
Sector and Population Problems, Family and Household Demography,
Household Welfare, Health
and Mortality, Population Economics, Spatial Aspects of Population
Development, Ecological
Aspects of Population Development, Demographic Transition.
Students are obliged to choose
relevant lectures according to their specialization.
