PRED 2009 version 5.0
The Population, Resources, Environment and Development database (PRED 2009) is available on CD-ROM. The PRED database contains data series dealing with various aspects of population, labour force, education, economic and social development, land, water and energy use. It also provides the texts of selected international treaties and conventions related to major environment and development issues.
Two major criteria for including variables in the database were substantive relevance and wide international coverage. Of those that meet these requirements, 40 variables pertain to population, and 48 variables to economic development. Fourteen variables pertain to land, water and food resources and three variables are on environment and development. Fourteen variables are on population related policies, and 14 variables are on international treaties. The present version of the database reflects the latest information available as of November 2009.
The data and documents provided can be exported for further analysis. A user’s guide provides a detailed review of the features of the interface and explains how to access and export information.
The PRED database CD-ROM is available for sale for US$75. The CD-ROM can be purchased by filling out the order form and sending it, along with a cheque or international money order in US dollars drawn on a United States bank, payable to the United Nations Population Division.
However, the United Nations Population Division is able to provide one copy of the CD-ROM free of charge to interested institutions in developing countries, upon request through a signed letter on the institution's letterhead paper.
