of the United Nations Expert Group Meeting on Social and The Meeting considered the consequences of the worldwide demographic transition and the changing age structure of populations, including the different types of potential demographic dividends, intergenerational transfers, the effects of ageing on the macro-economy, the viability of social security systems, and health. The Meeting was made possible by the support of the National Institutes of Aging (NIA) of the United States, and resulted from the collaboration between the Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat and the Consejo Nacional de Población (CONAPO) of Mexico. The proceedings
of the Meeting include a report of the deliberations and edited versions
