              Update of The World's Women:  Trends and Statistics

                            Note by the Secretariat


1.   By its resolution 36/8 on the preparations for the Fourth World
Conference on Women:  Action for Equality, Development and Peace, the
Commission on the Status of Women decided that the agenda for the Conference
should include the second review and appraisal of the Nairobi Forward-looking
Strategies for the Advancement of Women.

2.   It decided that the documentation under this item should include the
update of The World's Women:  Trends and Statistics.  The update
(ST/ESA/STAT/Ser.K/12; Sales No. E.95.XVII.2) will be before the Conference
for its consideration.
