                 Second review and appraisal of the implementation
                 of the Nairobi Forward-looking Strategies for the
                             Advancement of Women

                            Note by the Secretariat


1.   By its resolution 36/8 on the preparations for the Fourth World
Conference on Women:  Action for Equality, Development and Peace, the
Commission on the Status of Women decided that the agenda for the Conference
should include the second review and appraisal of the implementation of the
Nairobi Forward-looking Strategies for the Advancement of Women.

2.   At its thirty-ninth session, the Commission had before it the report of
the Secretary-General on the second review and appraisal (E/CN.6/1995/3 and
Add.1-10), which will be before the Conference for its consideration.
