Global celebration of forests

21 March has been declared as the International Day of Forests by the United Nations General Assembly

This is the first ever global initiative by the United Nations Forum on Forests Secretariat to acknowledge and celebrate efforts to visually capture the significant, extraordinary and unique connection of people and forests through photographs. We received over 400 entries from 39 countries. The photos in the slideshow above are the 21 finalists, selected by an international jury of lauded photopgraphers and senior UN experts, to commemorate the first ever International Forest Day on 21 March 2013.

The five winning photographers will be honored in person during the tenth session of the Forum on Forests (UNFF10) in Istanbul on Wednesday, 10 April 2013.
