Trust Fund
Background
The FfD Trust Fund was established in May 2000, in order to support substantive preparations for the International Conference on Financing for Development (March 2002, Monterrey, Mexico) and the participation of developing countries in the Conference. Following the Monterrey Conference, the terms of reference of the Trust Fund were revised to take into account the Monterrey Consensus, particularly the chapter entitled "Staying Engaged", and to support the work of the Financing for Development Office in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
The Trust Fund now seeks voluntary contributions, in order to support the activities involved in the preparations for the Doha Review Conference in 2008 and the travel and participation of representatives of developing countries, in particular least developed countries (para. 12 of General Assembly resolution 62/187 (A/RES/62/187)). The Secretary-General issued a note verbale to all Governments through their Permanent Missions, appealing for voluntary contributions to the Trust Fund.
