Enhancing the role of the private sector in the implementation of the Vienna Programme of Action and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development

Summary:
The Vienna Programme of Action (VPoA) constitutes the international efforts to address the special needs of the LLDCs. Both the Addis Ababa Action Agenda and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development recognize the special needs of the LLDCs. The financing needs to successfully implement the VPoA and the 2030 Agenda are high. The contribution of the private sector is critical. However, more needs to be done to create an enabling environment to facilitate an enhanced role of the private sector and to attract and boost both domestic and foreign investments. This event will bring together government officials from LLDCs and their development partners and other countries, private sector, and international organizations, to exchange views on the challenges and opportunities faced by the private sector and to discuss possible partnerships and strategies to develop policies and an environment conducive to private sector growth and the overall sustainable development of LLDCs.
