Summary
Prioritizing the realization of economic, social and Environmental rights, ending poverty and promoting sustainable development has been recognized as key objectives to achieving sustainable development.
However, the linkages between achieving these key objectives and financing to achieve them are often not established when planning for development. Fiscal commitment to the realization of economic, social and Environmental rights is now even more imperative in the face of the fact that almost all proposed sustainable development goals touch on economic, social and Environmental rights. It becomes therefore necessary to align development finance and financial systems to prioritize commitment to the fulfillment of human rights. This side event is expected to provide answers to key financing issues including how current financial systems can be transformed to acheive the sustainable development goals and to promote realization of the economic, social and environmental rights of all people including women and children.
