(The "Action Against Hunger and Poverty" meeting of world leaders was held on 20 September 2004, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM in the ECOSOC Chamber at United Nations Headquarters in New York. 61 Heads of State or Government participated in the event, chaired by H.E. Mr. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of the Federative Republic of Brazil. 111 Governmsents signed on to the New York Declaration on Action against Hunger and Poverty, which highlighted the need to raise development assistance levels and to give further attention to innovative mechanisms of financing, in order to meet the Millennium Development Goals.)
