"Road to Doha" Business Sector Steering Committee
The General Assembly of the United Nations decided to hold a Follow-up International Conference on Financing for Development to Review the Implementation of the Monterrey Consensus in Doha, Qatar from 29 November to 2 December 2008.
The Conference will assess progress made, reaffirm goals and commitments, share best practices and lessons learned, and identify obstacles and constraints encountered, actions and initiatives to overcome them and important measures for further implementation, as well as new challenges and emerging issues.
The General Assembly continues to highlight the importance of the full involvement of all relevant stakeholders in the Monterrey follow-up process. In that regard, business sector entities and non-governmental organizations are invited to participate in the Review Conference and its preparatory process.
In order to facilitate the participation of business sector representatives in the preparatory process leading up to the Conference, a Steering Committee, comprising business sector representatives from around the world, was set up to help coordinate all relevant activities. The purpose of the Steering Committee is to facilitate the participation of representatives of the business sector in the preparatory process and in the "Second International Business Forum on Financing for Development" which will precede the Conference.
