3. Mandate role of above mechanism/council: The Federal Government (Bundesregierung) consists of the Federal Chancellor and the Federal Ministries. The Federal Chancellor determines the general policy guidelines. Within the limits set by these guidelines the Federal Ministers conduct the affairs of the departments on their own responsibility in close coordination with other Federal ministers involved. The BMU and BMZ (see above) are jointly in charge of coordination of the Rio follow-up, particularly the implementation of Agenda 21.
