Viet Nam signed the Convention on Biological Diversity on 28 May 1993 and ratified it on 16 November 1994. It acceded to Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora on 20 January 1994. It is not a Party to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (as of 1 September 1997). Conservation of biological diversity is provided by the National Action Plan on the Protection of Biodiversity. It has been further supported by the closing of natural forests since 1996 and the protection given Animals in the Red-Book.
