INTEGRATED DECISION-MAKING

Decision-Making: Coordinating Bodies

There is a National Commission on Sustainable Development in the Republic of Belarus. Its mandate is

to elaborate and implement a national strategy for sustainable development (Decree No. 197 of 20 March 1996, by the Cabinet of Ministers), in accordance with the decisions of the Rio Conference;
to ensure social and economic development within the framework of environment priorities;
to coordinate policy and activities of related ministries and departments for designing probjects, measures and programmes on sustainable development;
to prepare annual national reports to the Commission on Sustainable Development; and
to carry out international initiatives directed toward environmentally-sound and sustainable development.

Members of the National Commission include the Vice-Prime Minister, as Chair, and representatives of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Economy, and the Department of International Cooperation and Science.
