The Government has ongoing work in the following areas: Environment
Morocco is also participating in NEPAD environmental projects at the
regional level.
§
Establishment of a
NEPAD-Environment focal point: Mr. Taha Balafrej, Director of Partnerships,
Communications and Cooperation in the Secretariat of State for the Environment.
§
Morocco participated in
the drafting of the NEPAD-Environment Plan of Action, which is aimed at, inter
alia, human and institutional capacity building.
§
The Arab Maghreb Union
has integrated NEPAD priorities and objectives in its programme for the environment.
§
The Secretariat of
State for the Environment will hold meetings to raise awareness of the
environmental component of NEPAD, with the involvement of all stakeholders,
including women.
Areas of great success and difficulties/obstacles in
implementing NEPAD
The
implementation of NEPAD-Environment has not yet begun, pending its adoption by
African bodies.
Estimated financial outlay on NEPAD programmes
Outlays
cannot as yet be estimated with any accuracy.
Technical or financial assistance from African
Regional Organizations (AU, ECA, ADB) in implementing the NEPAD priorities

Significance of the African Peer Review Mechanism to
the success of NEPAD
The
Africa Peer Review Mechanism plays an important role.
The
implementation of NEPAD-Environment is the foundation for the establishment of
sustainable development in Africa, hence the need for United Nations bodies and
the donor community to support it.
