From Rio to the Future We Want
The Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development this past summer put a global spot light on the need for collective action on building the Future We Want in a sustainable way.
In addition to official commitments made by governments in the outcome document titled The Future We Want, the UN-organized conference enabled a space that fostered multi-stakeholder partnerships and exchanges of innovative ideas on how to implement sustainable development initiatives.
Beyond the political arena, significant civil society-private sector partnerships were developed, making the movers of sustainable development 'We the peoples' and the global citizen.
Moving forward, post-Rio+20, the UN remains dedicated to monitoring the commitments on sustainable development by governments and UN partners, promoting innovative and creative sustainable development events and initiatives, and informing our world on how we can actively build the Future We Want.
