Kuwaiti POWs and missing persons
Members of the Council heard the
information of the President of the Security Council about his meeting with
H.E. Sheikh
Salem Sabah Al-Salem Al Sabah, the
Chairman of the National Committee for Missing Persons and Prisoners of War's
Affairs
of Kuwait on 23 March 2001.
During the meeting the President of the
Security Council and the Chairman of the National Committee for Missing Persons
and
Prisoners of War's Affairs of Kuwait
have discussed the issues relating to Kuwaiti missing persons and prisoners of
war.
Members of the Council express their
concern at the plight of the Kuwaiti POWs and missing persons and their
families. In this
context a particular importance is given
to the issue of cooperation of Iraq in solving this humanitarian problem.
Members of the Council believe that
resumption of Iraq's participation in the meetings of the Tripartite Commission
and its
cooperation with the Secretary-General's
High-Level Coordinator for Missing Kuwaiti and Third Country Nationals,
Ambassador Yu.Vorontsov is of crucial
importance. They urge Iraq to fully cooperate with all agencies and bodies
dealing with
this issue in order to achieve progress
in resolving this humanitarian problem.
The Security Council is going to
consider this issue next month.
