CTED and NAUSS pledged to enhance their cooperation on counter-terrorism
The president of the Naif Arab University for Security Studies (NAUSS), Dr. Jamaan Ben Ragosh and the university's director, Dr. Saqr El-Moqaied, visited the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) on 14 April 2014 to discuss possible areas of cooperation. The delegation was welcomed by Mr. Weixiong Chen, Deputy Executive Director. Present at the meeting were Mr. Hassan Baage, Chief of Branch, Mr. Ahmed Seif El-Dawla, Section Chief and other relevant CTED staff concerned with the region and the research unit.
"We have a clear mandate from Security Council resolution 2129 (2013) to further engage and enhance partnerships with academia and other entities in conducting research and information-gathering" said Mr. Chen. "In this regard, there is a wide range of areas for both CTED and NAUSS to continue to work closer on international and regional counter-terrorism issues," he added. "NAUSS has a unique academic feature and professional expertise in the Arab world. All of this will contribute to the work of CTED," he concluded.
Dr. Ragosh reiterated the willingness and readiness of Naif University to enhance its cooperation with CTED in various areas of common interest. He also highlighted the available academic programmes and research studies which are counter-terrorism-related and will be of benefit to the work of CTED. "We are more than eager to work as close academic partner with CTED to advance the UN objectives on counter-terrorism," emphasised Dr. Ragosh.
Both entities identified the a number of possible areas of future cooperation which may include co-hosting joint workshops on Security Council resolutions 1373 (2001) and 1624 (2005) in line of the recent meetings with NAUSS and the Security Council on resolution 1929 (2010); arranging for CTED delegation at the university to deliver presentations to law enforcement officials in the region and raise their awareness on international best codes and practices related to the effective implementation of resolution 1373; and conducting research by NAUSS on counter-terrorism topics related to Security Council resolutions 1373 and 1624; as well as sharing NAUSS publications with CTED. Both also agreed to explore areas in which matters related to counter-terrorism and human rights are addressed.
NAUUS is under the leadership of H.R.H Prince Mohammed ibn Naif ibn Abdul Aziz Al-Saud, Interior Minister of The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. NAUSS is situated in Riyadh, and specializes in advanced security related studies at postgraduate level in the form of diplomas, master's degrees and doctorate programs.
