Financial pledge of the Netherlands to the UN CT work
A sum of US$ 220,000 per year has been pledged to the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) over the 2013-2014 cycles to support the United Nations counter-terrorism capacity-building projects.
Mr. Marcel van den Bogaard, Legal Adviser of the Permanent Mission of the Netherlands to the United Nations, made that pledge on behalf of his Government during a meeting with Mr. Weixiong Chen, CTED Deputy Executive Director, on 17 April 2013.
We cherish such a contribution at this particular moment of intensifying the UN efforts on counter-terrorism, said Mr. Chen. The Netherlands is a traditional and active partner of the Committee and its CTED in providing technical and financial assistance to Member States in counter-terrorism capacity-building activities, he added.
The Netherlands will continue to work closely with the United Nations, in particular in the area of prevention of terrorism through de-radicalization, and will offer its financial contribution and expertise to the regional programmes and projects on capacity-building of States in need, said Mr. van den Bogaard.
Both expressed satisfaction over a series of projects that CTED and the Netherlands had jointly undertaken, which contributed to the enhancement of regional counter-terrorism awareness-raising and capacity-building.
