CTED visits the Russian Federation

The Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED) visited the
Russian Federation from 8 to 10 October 2012 as part of its ongoing work to
monitor the implementation of Security Council resolution 1373 (2001).

CTED’s Executive Director, Mike Smith, led the delegation that included
experts from other regional and international organizations. They met with
competent authorities to discuss how the Russian Federation is implementing the
different counter-terrorism provisions of the SC resolution 1373, as well as
Security Council resolution 1624 (2005).

Issues addressed during the visit included in particular measures to tackle terrorist
financing, border control measures and airport security. The authorities
also informed the delegation of their efforts to prohibit and prevent
incitement both through law enforcement measures and a comprehensive
approach emphasizing dialogue and outreach. As with all country visits, the
discussions also included human rights issues that were relevant to the
mission’s focus .

Since it was established by the Security Council in 2004, CTED has
conducted over 75 country visits on behalf of the Council’s
Counter-Terrorism Committee.
