UN Appeals Tribunal

How To File An Appeal

  • You must use the appeal forms to file your appeal.
  • If you appeal a UNDT Judgment, you also need to prepare a brief that explains the legal basis of any of the five grounds for appeal.
  • If you appeal a decision of the Standing Committee of the UNJSPB, your brief should contain pleas and an explanatory statement as to why the contested decision did not observe the regulations of the Pension Fund.
  • If you appeal a decision of the head of an agency or entity, you must file a brief, containing pleas and an explanatory statement as to why you are contesting the decision taken.
  • Briefs should not exceed 15 pages.
  • You need to provide a copy of each document that you refer to in your brief, as an annex. The annexes should be numbered in sequential Arabic numerals (e.g. Annex 1, Annex 2, etc).
  • You need to sign the appeal form and the brief.
  • You should submit your appeal and all related filings through the eFiling portal. The eFiling system will subsequently allow you to receive notifications and have easy access to the documentation relating to your case (communications, submissions, orders by the Tribunal, etc.).
  • To file your appeal or related filings through the eFiling portal, please follow the instructions below:
  1. Download, fill out, and save the relevant form(s) on your computer. Allow the time necessary to thoroughly prepare and organize your appeal in advance.
  2. Request an account to access the eFiling Portal. Once your account has been approved and confirmed, you may access the portal to submit your appeal.
  3. Log on to the eFiling portal using the credentials you created.
  4. You will be prompted to fill out your personal information and relevant details regarding your appeal.
  5. Select the type of submission and upload the completed form from your computer. Under Article 8(3) of the Tribunal's Rules of Procedure, the appeal form shall be signed. You may thus choose to submit your signed appeal form in PDF format or submit it in Word format and upload, as an annex, a separate PDF document with your signature. You may also add annexes, if needed.
  6. Submit your appeal.
For an in-depth description of the procedure to follow, please refer to the eFiling page.

  • If you are unable to make your filing through the eFiling portal, you may file your submissions with the Registry by e-mail (e-mail address: UNAT1@un.org) or by hand, post, pouch, or other means (address: 2 United Nations Plaza, Rooms 2404 – 2408, New York, NY 10017, United States of America).
