Remember the Fallen

1 November 2011 to 31 August 2012

Twenty-nine staff members died in the line of duty during this period as a result of a malicious act, natural disaster, accident at work, or other emergency.

A Memorial Service to honour UN staff members who have lost their lives in serving the Organization from 1 November 2011 to 31 August 2012 was held by the Secretary-General at the UN Secretariat on 14 November 2012. ( video)

Family members, together with representatives of permanent missions, agencies, funds and programmes attended the service.

This occasion serves as an annual opportunity for the entire UN family to honour the lives and contributions of those who passed away while serving the Organization.
