the 50th Anniversary of the Death of Dag Hammarskjöld
Wreath-laying ceremony on 13 September 2011
On Tuesday, 13 September 2011, at 9.45 a.m., there was a ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the death in a plane crash near Ndola, Northern Rhodesia of Dag Hammarskjöld and the 15 others who accompanied him on his last mission of peace. A wreath was laid by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in the Visitors Lobby outside the Meditation Room.
Tribute to Hammarskjöld at opening of the GA's 66th session
The opening meeting of the Sixty-sixth session of the United Nations General Assembly was devoted to a tribute to the UN's second Secretary-General, Dag Hammarskjöld. The meeting took place in the General Assembly Hall on Tuesday, 13 September at 3:00 p.m.
