In Memoriam -
In remembrance of those members of the UN Family who lost their lives
in the earthquake in Haiti, 12 January 2010

The Haiti earthquake of 12 January 2010 measured 7.0 on the Richter scale. Hundreds of thousands of Haitians lost their lives. The United Nations lost 102 of its staff. The names of 102 UN staff confirmed to have died follows:

The tributes contained on this website have been prepared based on information gathered from a number of sources, both within and outside the United Nations, in the weeks that followed the Haiti earthquake.  Originally intended for an internal audience of UN staff, they were published on the UN Secretariat’s intranet, “iSeek”, which is managed by the Department of Public Information.  The purpose of these tributes is solely to honour our fellow United Nations staff members and peacekeeping personnel who perished in the earthquake.  It should not be attributed any official status as to documenting the situation of the individuals mentioned or not mentioned.

These tributes could not have been written without the support of the Department of Peacekeeping Operations, the Department of Field Support, the Department of Management, members of the diplomatic community, and the numerous other staff, friends and family members from around the world who submitted photographs and shared their thoughts and personal stories about those who lost their lives.
