Alain Lubamba Kongolo, 1969 - 2011

Alain Lubamba Kongolo, a national of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, was a Field Operations Liaison Coordinator of the International Criminal Court. He was 42 years old.

He died on 4 April 2011 aboard a UN plane which had been on a flight from the north-eastern city of Kisangani. The plane crashed as it tried to land amid heavy rain and high winds, at N’Djili airport in Kinshasa (DRC).

Since May 2006, Alain had been working as coordinator of field operations in the operational support unit. He was responsible for providing support for field missions.

"He was not only an excellent professional but also a well-liked colleague with whom each and everyone could establish friendly relations," said a colleague.

Alain is survived by his wife and three young children.
