The annual Reham Al-Farra Memorial Journalists Fellowship Programme is a unique opportunity for journalists from developing countries and countries with economies in transition to spend six weeks at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York City.
Established in 1980 by the UN General Assembly, the programme provides journalists with an opportunity to acquaint themselves with the work of the United Nations.
Since the programme was first held in 1981, more than 470 journalists and broadcasters from more than 160 countries have participated in the programme.
Formerly known as the Department of Public Information (DPI) Training Programme for Broadcasters and Journalists from Developing Countries, the fellowship was renamed in honour of Reham Al-Farra, a young journalist and DPI staff member killed in the attack on UN Headquarters in Baghdad in 2003.
