The world faces a “perfect storm” of crises.
Countries and people – affluent, emerging and developing alike – have to work together to meet the challenges. That’s the point of action-oriented agreements like the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD), and the Millennium Development Goals.
The Maputo Declaration 2004 points the way forward on these linked challenges:

UNFPA’s strategy has three core areas:
- population and development policy;
- sexual and reproductive health;
- women’s empowerment and gender equality.
