The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with Mr. Marc Bichler, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF). Discussions underscored the importance of Information Communications Technologies (ICTs) for development.
The Executive Secretary explained how UNCDF can operationally serve to facilitate digital inclusion of Least Developed Countries (LDCs), the prospects for replicating its work in other countries and its potential contribution to the elaboration of the Post-2015 Development Agenda through the mobilisation of investments for infrastructure and connectivity. The Executive Secretary noted the development of UNCDF Strategic Framework (2014-2017), and its recent initiative to establish a new investment fund.
President Ashe invited UNCDF to share its field experience with the broader international community and to consider contributing to the President’s agenda for the sixty-eighth session and in particular, to the thematic debate on the Role of Partnerships in the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
