President Ashe meets with H. E. Mr. Jose Manuel Garcia Margallo, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain
The President of the General Assembly met today with H.E. Mr. Jose Manuel Garcia Margallo, Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The Foreign Minister underscored Spain’s interest in serving as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. He also reiterated the country’s keen interest in promoting Security Council reform. The PGA mentioned a meeting that will be organized by the General Assembly in October of the inter-governmental working group focused on the reform agenda with a view to narrow differences. The PGA welcomed Spain’s contribution in this regard.
They also exchanged views on political and humanitarian issues in Syria and possible contributions by the General Assembly. The PGA highlighted the need for a political solution. The Foreign Minister offered his country’s support, noting that Spain’s King, Juan Carlos I, enjoys friendly relations with the royal families in the region and could help promote peace efforts.
