Readout of the President of the General Assembly’s meeting with H. E. Mr. Ivan Gasparovic, President of Slovakia

The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with H.E. Mr. Ivan Gasparovic, President of Slovakia. They discussed Slovakia’s contribution to the deliberations on security sector reform as well as the need for a political solution to the situation in Syria.
President Gasparovic expressed his delegation’s interest in organizing an event within the General Assembly on the launching of the Secretary General’s report on security sector reform, and welcomed President Ashe’s support as appropriate. He reaffirmed Slovakia’s commitment to continue actively participating in the work and programmes of the United Nations, including in peacekeeping missions.
The President of the General Assembly commended Slovakia’s leadership on security sector reform. He also encouraged Slovakia to share its experience during the high level events and thematic debates scheduled for the sixty-eighth, drawing specific attention to the thematic debate on Ensuring Stable and Peaceful Societies.
