The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with H.E. Mr. Pasquale Valentini, Minister for Foreign Affairs of San Marino. Foreign Minister Valentini congratulated President Ashe on his election as President of the General Assembly and commented on how President Ashe’s experience and background would be key for the General Assembly and the sixty-eighth session.
The Foreign Minister highlighted the importance of revitalization of the General Assembly and the need to enhance the role and responsibilities of the General Assembly. The Foreign Minister offered the support of San Marino to the United Nations reform process including the revitalization of the General Assembly and the reform of the Security Council. In this regard, he further highlighted the important contribution of small states to the process of reform and revitalisation.
The President of the General Assembly thanked the Foreign Minister for his kind words and for the useful exchange on reform issues. He expressed his desire to have San Marino’s active participation during the sixty-eighth session.
