The President of the General Assembly, H.E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with H.E. Mr. Juan Manuel Gómez Robledo, Undersecretary for Multilateral Affairs and Human Rights of Mexico. Discussions covered the Post-2015 Development Agenda, Security Council Reform and the 2014 World Conference on Indigenous Peoples.
The Undersecretary congratulated President Ashe on the planning and topical direction toward promoting a strong and ambitious Post-2015 Development Agenda. In this light, he informed the President of Mexico's efforts in advancing an overarching inclusion perspective in the future development agenda of the United Nations, which will be decided upon in September 2015.
The Undersecretary expressed Mexico’s interest in participating and supporting the President's events which will cover topics such as the contributions of human rights and the rule of law in the Post-2015 Development Agenda and the need to ensure, in such a framework, peaceful and stable societies.
The Undersecretary expressed Mexico’s views and hopes for further progress on Security Council Reform and also noted that Mexico will play a leading role in the preparations for the World Conference on Indigenous Peoples to be held in New York on 23 September 2014.
