President Ashe meets with Madame Sahle-Work Zewde, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON)

The President of the General Assembly, H. E. Mr. John W. Ashe, met today with Madame Sahle-Work Zewde, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON). Discussion focused on the administrative services and political mandate of UNON.

Madame Zewde noted that as the third largest UN administrative office in the world, UNON administers more than fifty duty stations with a 350-strong employee count, resourced to support the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat).

Madame Zewde made note that core funding and common services for UNON going forward would be determined by strategic decisions related to the current reform process of the UN. President Ashe welcomed the information and noted the General Assembly is currently considering the Organization's Budget for the next biennium.
